Notice for changes in 2017 Parent and Grandparent Program

Ottawa, January 3, 2017—The 2017 PGP i.e. Parent and Grandparent Program opens again today. On December 14, 2016 IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) announced various changes that tell how applicants will apply for sponsorship under PGP.

From today noon EST (Eastern Standard Time) if you wish to sponsor your parents or grandparents you have to start it by completing an online application form and submit it to us. Now onwards, Sponsors will be selected randomly from those who have successfully completed the online application form.

These changes are made as part of government’s commitment for fair and transparent procedure and for improving people’s access to application process.  Previously sponsors had to run for applying in January whenever the program re-opened, which led various applicants to pay high courier fees just to secure their spot.
There is no rush to complete the online form right away.  Now you need not to rush complete the online form right away. You have duration of 30 days from January 3, 2017 to February 2, 2017, noon EST that lets us know that who are interested in applying to be a sponsor in the PGP.
Important key points to Remember

  • Before applying for the form, make sure that you are eligible for applying under the PGP.
  • After checking eligibility, make sure that all the information required in the form are filled.
  • You should submit the form only once. Multiple applications won’t increase your sponsorship chances. Duplicate forms will be rejected.
  • Completing the form does not mean you have applied to sponsor under the PGP. It is just a way for you to tell us you’d like to sponsor under the program.  Form completion does not guarantee you have applied to sponsor under the PGP. It is just for showing your interest towards sponsorship under this program.
